My husband got braces last year and has been complaining ever since about how toothbrushes can dislodge his wires, which then poke his gums all night. The rest of us suffer for it the next morning! :-) I therefore took it upon myself to look into the Philips Sonicare, which most of us have seen in the shops or in advertising. After all, how could anybody miss that price tag? I had often wondered aloud if any toothbrush could be worth the money it cost and concluded that there was no way it could be worth it.

I lost my skepticism when I bought a Clarisonic Mia2 facial brush, which also uses sonic technology. I was extremely pleased with the results of that purchase and concluded that the Mia2 was worth every penny of its high price. I was busy congratulating myself on making the investment in myself while admiring my complexion, when the lightbulb went off above my head. I jumped onto Amazon, shopped around, and found this Philips Sonicare HX6733/90 Healthy White 3 Mode Platinum Edition Rechargeable Toothbrush 2-Pack Bundle. The price was less than I had expected and thus a happy surprise, so I immediately purchased the set through Amazon Prime and had it in my hands in two days.

I am a longtime tea drinker with very sensitive gums. Despite a lifetime of excellent dental care and virtuous brushing and flossing, my teeth had a yellowish staining that wouldn't go away. My gums won't tolerate whitening treatments, so I concluded that I would just have to live with it. As I'm in my late 30s, I also thought that some of the yellowish color could be a result of natural aging and thinning enamel and didn't think any more about it. When I received the Sonicare, I read the packaging and indulged myself in fantasizing that it might MAYBE whiten my teeth, but I didn't really expect that it would.

I am very pleased to report that the Sonicare DID whiten my teeth, and in less than the week that the Sonicare advertising suggested that it would take. After only two days of usage, my teeth are not only noticeably whiter, they sparkle! I was so excited by the results that I decided that I had to review this product immediately to sing its praises. I really believed that my teeth would remain somewhere between ivory and alabaster in color from here to eternity, and I was beyond delighted to see that they have begun to return to their original whiteness with no extra effort on my part aside from my usual oral hygiene routine.

I was startled when I first put the toothbrush in my mouth, as it vibrates so quickly that it doesn't feel quite "right". The toothbrush head is very small and slim, which is great for getting into all of the crevices in your mouth. I used the Clean and Whiten mode (there are three, Sensitive, Clean, and Clean and Whiten) right from the start, just because I didn't notice the other two modes until my husband pointed them out this morning. Despite having sensitive gums, I did not feel that the DiamondClean brush heads were too harsh or that the cycle itself was too harsh. I haven't actually timed it, but the brush shuts itself off after the recommended two minutes of brushing. There is a slight pause every thirty seconds or so. My husband is a clean freak and flung the packaging and manual in the recycling bin yesterday, so I'm afraid I can't be specific as to whether or not it only does this in Clean and Whiten mode or in all modes. After brushing, I flossed thoroughly as always, and there seemed to be the usual minor amount of plaque after brushing as compared to the other electric toothbrush I had been using before the Sonicare. My one minor complaint is that it is very uncomfortable to brush your tongue with the Sonicare.

My husband commented that the Sonicare brush is very gentle on his braces, but he won't know exactly how well it works on his teeth until the braces come off. He is pleased overall and interested in learning more about the system, and as I said, I am now a major fan who has already bored several colleagues with how amazing I think this product is. I am planning to update this review in a few weeks' time with whether or not the Sonicare was able to whiten the backs of my teeth, which have the most staining from tea.

The travel cases, chargers, and UV Sanitizer are gravy on top of the brush itself, as we have a small bathroom and travel a lot. Even without any of the extras, this product was worth every penny and more.
