You can trust my review, bad or good is your choice and i hope you can try to buy this product and then you know this product good or no. Next time you can make a review for another people.

I have been a very happy Oral-B (Braun) user for about the last 4 years. During that time I've gone through 2 of their higher-end brushes. I've never been one to bad-mouth Sonicare, because it's a good brush, but I just preferred the smaller size of the Oral-B, along with the pop-off brush heads. Now however, Sonicare has changed that with their new model, the Flexcare.

I purchased this model because it was recommended by a dentist who said that the new Flexcare is not just a new style of brush, but that it actually has a greatly improved brushing technology. So, I bought a brush online and proceeded to try it out. Wow.

After having used the Flexcare, it doesn't even seem possible to compare it to my old Oral-B (which is only a year old.) This brush actually seems 20 years more advanced, and that is not an exaggeration. It has a bit of a high-pitch to it which doesn't bother me, but the real story is in the vibration. The brush seems to work exponentially better with 80% less vibration; it's a dream to use. I actually get sad after it auto-shuts off after the brushing cycle, something that I wish it didn't do. Also, and perhaps most important, is that it feels like it cleans my teeth better than my Oral-B. After using the Flexcare for awhile, I went back to my old Oral-B, just to compare... As soon as I turned it on, I couldn't believe that I loved it so much, it felt like, and sounded like an antique in comparison.

The different brushing modes on the Flexcare are really nice, but there is a small problem with all your options. One thing I'd like to be able to do is to "program" the brush to do the 3-minute brushing mode every time by default (this mode does the brushing action and also the massage action.) However, whenever you place the brush back on the charger, it automatically resets back to the 2-minute brushing mode. Programming the brush for the mode that you like every time you pick it up is not hard, but it's really annoying. Sonicare: please fix this in later models.

This brush comes with 2 chargers, one for home (with the sanitizer) and a travel one (without a sanitizer.) It also comes with a brush head cover, and a travel pouch to put the wand in. These accessories will make traveling with my brush much more enjoyable. I've never understood why more electric toothbrush makers don't include or even make these accessories.

The pop-off brush heads (as compared to sonicare's old screw on heads) are fantastic and much better than the Oral-B pop-off ones. On my Oral-B I had to remove the brush head to wash out the gunk after brushing, but because the Sonicare brush heads are longer, very, very litle gunk gets in them. That was a pleasant surprise. Although, removing and attaching the brush head on the Flexcare wand requires a lot more force, which I don't like.

The U.V. sanitizer is a nice gadget, but who knows how useful it really is? In fact, there may even be some long-term immune system dangers by killing every bacteria/virus in sight, just like using anti-bacterial soap, but this is not the forum for that. I used the UV Sanitizer a few times, but I don't use it at all anymore because of what I believe to be a very real problem with all the anti-bacterial products out there these days. Although, based on the few times I did use it, I could see where its utilization on a daily basis would be cumbersome. If you brush twice a day, it becomes too much of a bother to remove the brush head every time and put it in the sanitizer. The brush head needs to be aligned perfectly in the sanitizer and the door closed and snapped gently. If you have big hands, putting the brush head into the sanitizer is more awkward, especially if you're using the large brush head (FYI: the brush heads come in 2 sizes, small and large, and one of each is included in the package.)

It's nice to see that Sonicare has FINALLY ditched the NiCad batteries and went to Li-ion batteries; what took so long? This change means that the brush will now run longer on a single charge, and won't develop a memory by leaving it on the charging stand. It's also the reason that the brush handle is now smaller which makes it more manageable.

As much as I love this brush, I do realize that the price Sonicare has marketed it at is exceedingly high. If I were to buy it again, I would save $20 and get the one without the U.V. sanitizer. Other than the high price and a little nitpicking on the brushing modes, I really couldn't be more pleased with this brush. Oral-B has a LONG way to go to catch up to this Sonicare model.

-------
Update 29 November 07

The brush still continues to amaze me and I LOVE using it everyday. I've stopped using the charging station with the UV Sanitizer and I now only use the "travel charger" for everyday use at home. One nice benefit in changing to the very, very small travel charger was that I freed up some space on my bathroom counter, and the brush is easier to set down and pickup without the sanitizer being in the way. I can't understand one reviewer who said the brush doesn't sit right or balance well on the stand. Also, I have sensitive teeth and use a sensitive toothpaste, and the brushes' actions have not bothered me at all. I'd buy this brush again in a heartbeat.

------
Update 17 Nov 11

I've had this brush for just over 4 years and it has performed admirably, until today that is. Today it just died, completely dead. There must be something wrong with the brush because this should not have happened in only 4 years. I also don't keep it on the charging stand and only charge it when it needs it. It is very annoying to say the least. I will be buying another because I do love it, but at nearly a hundred bucks, I'm not happy about it at all... I've since adjusted my rating down a star because of this. I hope that you have better luck. By the way, my old old Braun brush that I talk about in this review? Yeah, it still works... just saying...

You can trust my review, bad or good is your choice and i hope you can try to buy this product and then you know this product good or no. Next time you can make a review for another people.

The Sonicare Essence is my second Sonicare toothbrush. Previously, I used an Advance, which lasted about four and a half years. Prior to that, I had a different brand of electric brush. Some observations follow.

In general, any Sonicare would be a wise investment for you. No question, years of using it have saved me time and money at the dentist. By now you've seen from the other reviews how effective it is at cleaning your teeth. As I get older, I'm finding just how effective a job it also does at slowing my gum recession. I consider the sonic system superior over other brand's rotating mechanical approaches, which seemed to have more of an unpleasant taste and couldn't be used with just any brand or style of toothpaste, unlike the Sonicare.

The Essence and Elite models use the more slender heads versus the Advance. Slender is more comfortable as you maneuver the head around your mouth. Also, the slender heads tend to stay cleaner from build-up and residue, reducing the effort and need for periodic head cleaning. So far, I've found the slender heads to last as long as the Advance ones: about 6 months.

What about Essence versus Elite? Other reviews have summed it up. Sonicare (Philips, actually) segments Elite versus Essence by tossing in a couple of extra bells and whistles. I recommend that you seriously consider the Essence and put the dollars you save towards your first head replacements.

As far as usage goes, it's hard not to have an effective brushing technique with Sonicare. Place it against your teeth and gums at an angle and move it across the surfaces from one side of your mouth to the other. Be prepared for a moderately loud sonic tone in your skull, which can be a bit deceptive to others in the room with you because it's a much more muted noise to them (just in case they have the urge to speak to you while you brush). Yes, if you bump the brush plastic against your teeth, you'll get the rattle effect, which is a tad startling. With a little practice, that rarely happens unless you rush your brushing motions.

If you use a fluoride toothpaste and have a particular brushing pattern, say top-front at start, bottom-inside at finish, just reverse your pattern the additional times you brush each day. Why? To give the fluoride a chance to stay on your different teeth surfaces longer before you rinse it out.

Lastly, I make it a point to unplug my Sonicare between full charges and run it down to complete discharge. Even though rechargeable battery technology has reached the point where the "memory effect" we used to experience with the old Ni-Cad batteries isn't much of an issue anymore, I think this approach tends to keep the batteries conditioned and gets you a bit more mileage out of your brush handle. The sacrifice you make with this approach is that last brushing as the batteries drain to empty will likely be incomplete. So trot out the old manual standby to finish and then plug in the Sonicare to charge up. With my new Essence, I find I can go about a week this way, brushing twice a day.

I consider Sonicare one of those appliances that's a great investment and which will pay you dividends over the long haul. Highly recommended.

Update Summer 2008:
Over 2 years of use on this appliance and my satisfaction level remains high. Regarding head replacements, I do want to add one observation. If you go 6 months like I do before swapping heads, the firmness of the new head will feel especially pronounced, perhaps to the point of causing gum tenderness. In that case, back off the hand pressure you apply, and in about a week, your gums should acclimate. Enjoy!

Update #2, Spring 2010:
Over 4 years of regular use and my Sonicare Essence still performs quite well. I can't go nearly as long between charges now, down to about half a week, but I've adapted to the battery's diminishing ability to hold a charge. Being a devoted user, I find I really miss the Sonicare on the occasions where I don't have it with me. This is definitely the kind of appliance that sets a standard for what you come to expect and want, thus any other experience tends to pale in comparison.

For readers in Europe and other countries that have 220V electrical systems, note that the Essence 5300 has a charger that is for use only on 110-120V / 50-60Hz systems. If you get the Essence technical spec from the Philips web site, it confirms this restriction. One possible option may be the Sonicare model called "HealthyWhite," which can be found on European Philips sites and which contains a multi-voltage charger. I don't have any experience with that particular model though, so definitely research it further before you purchase.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)

I have been using Philips Sonicare toothbrushes for years and years. I've owned several as I've worn them out over the years and as they have improved the design. I was excited to see that they have a model specifically for kids and wondered what the differences might be.

The toothbrush is almost the same as the Sonicare I currently own for myself. The similarities are:

1.) Different power levels for different users (in the case of the kids' brush one setting for ages 4-7 and one for ages 7-10.

2.) Quadrapace timer- the children's version has a musical tone every 30 seconds to let your child know to move to the next quadrant of her mouth.

3.) Ramped up power and time- the feeling of a Sonicare is a little off-putting to some people at first as it can cause a kind of tingling in the mouth from the rapid vibrations. The power (in both modes) and the time (in the low power mode) are ramped up over the first several uses to allow people to get used to it. It starts off with lower power and for little kids, a shorter overall brushing time.

4.) Different size heads- the head is actually interchangeable with the regular Sonicare brush that I have. The shape at the base is just slightly different. I was worried about finding heads for the kids' brush. But, if I can't, I'll just buy a regular head for her when this one wears out. The heads come in two sizes. But, I found the larger one is pretty much exactly like my normal Sonicare head. The bristles seem to be about the same stiffness and the shape of the bristles and the head is just about the same.

The differences are:

1.) Cute kids colors and interchangeable face plate. Read the directions. The face plate has a protective back that should be removed so it doesn't keep falling off. It'll come with one face plate on it. But, you can change it.

2.) Charger is a two piece device- I don't like this. My Sonicare came with a travel charge in addition to the regular charger. This kids version seems to have used a travel charger (which doesn't have a place to store the extra heads) and they just made a piece to fit over it. The problem is it doesn't snap together. So, it's just kind of tacky and unstable.

3.) Instead of just pausing between quadrants, the kids version of the brush actually plays a musical tone.

My 9 year old squealed with glee when she saw the toothbrush. She couldn't wait to use it. She even asked if she could brush three times a day instead of two. I worked with her the first couple of times she used it, as you will have to with your kids. The timer is great because we have bought timers for she and her older sister before to get them to brush for two minutes with their manual brushes. But, they don't use the timer consistently and two minutes is a long time for a child (especially if they're thinking about doing something else). The other thing you'll have to work with your child on is not using this like a regular toothbrush. Children tend to brush too hard anyway and we have been working with both our children about not scrubbing their teeth. With the Sonicare, you just place the brush against the teeth and move it from section to section. It took a while for her to get this concept as she kept wanting to use a back and forth motion. She laughed saying the brush "tickled". But, the sensation was not uncomfortable for her.

Overall, I give the brush a very good rating. There are only a couple of things I don't like about it. The charger could be better constructed. In addition to being two parts, the spare head doesn't fit on the post very well and tends to pop off. Another thing that could concern me with a younger child is the way you change the power setting from the lower level (for 4-7) to the higher level is a simple button that is easily accessible to children. Curious children may push the button and end up brushing their teeth with either too much power or too little power. I honestly don't find this brush to be significantly different than the Sonicare I already own, which is a good thing. This is not a water-down version of a Sonicare. I was wondering what features it might be missing. It's got all of their advanced features in terms of the guts of the brush (I have the one with the Ultraviolet cleaner). The novelty of it and the built-in timer will get kids excited about brushing and make sure they brush thoroughly. I highly recommend it.

You can trust my review, bad or good is your choice and i hope you can try to buy this product and then you know this product good or no. Next time you can make a review for another people.

The batteries on my old Sonicare Elite (E-series) died on me, so I decided to get a new one. The R710 has several incremental upgrades which are worth the difference in price.

First and foremost, like the FlexCare line, it uses the ProResults head. This alone is worth the price difference. They snap in easily, they cost less, and the handle traps much less gunk than before. Sold. I'm still waiting to see how long they last, my guess is about the same.

In addition to the regular cleaning cycle, the R710 has a second cycle designed to scrub away stains. It's selected by pushing the power button twice. In this mode, the 5th (last) interval of the normal cycle is pulsed in a way that's supposed to break up stains on your visible teeth. Note that after this interval, the brush stops. If you still want to brush your tongue or concentrate on hard-to-reach areas, you'll have to push the power button again.

The R710 now also comes with a Li-ion battery, meaning a noticeable decrease in weight as well an increase in battery life. The charger is about half the size of the Elite's, but it doesn't have anywhere to wrap the cord like the deluxe charger on the Flexcare. It comes with a little plate that holds two extra heads though. The charge indicator is a simple LED. If it's blinking, it's below 50%; if it's solid, then it's above. Maybe not as informative or fun to watch as the Elite or FlexCare, but it does the job.

In short, if you want a good basic Sonicare, this is the one to get. It has all the great redesigned features of the FlexCare but less of the (IMO gimmicky) extra routines and modes. If you have sensitive teeth, check out the R732. For an extra $20, it also comes with a few extra accessories like a case and deluxe charger.

UPDATE (1/5/2011): My Sonicare failed a few days before the 2-year warranty expired. It powered on, but the action gradually weakened over a week, until the brush head no longer moved at all.

Following a short call, Philips promptly sent out a new HX6730 handle along with a return mailer for the defective unit. Great support, as long as you're within the warranty period.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)

I've been a Sonicare user for a number of years based on the recommendation of my dentist. I've had to have quite a lot of reconstructive dental work and my dentist wise surmised that I want it to keep in its current condition as long as possible and he recommended Sonicare as stacking the deck in my favor. I'm sold on Sonicare in general.

Should you get a Sonicare? Yes. Without a doubt.

This particular unit, the HX5610/01, is actually my 2nd Sonicare. It's what I will call the 'basic' model and I consider my 'weekend house' toothbrush. I also have the Philips Sonicare HX6732/02 HealthyWhite R732 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, a 'deluxe' version, that I consider my day-to-day Sonicare. Both units are the crème of the crop tools when it comes to cleaning teeth. What sets the 'basic' model apart from my 'deluxe' Sonicare is seemingly minor, but is worth mentioning. To appreciate the difference, you have to know how you use the brush.

To properly use Sonicare, you use it for 2 minutes. Exactly 2 minutes. 30 seconds on the top teeth on the outside, 30 second on the top teeth on the inside of your mouth, 30 seconds on the bottom teeth on the outside, and finally 30 seconds on the bottom teeth on the inside of your mouth.

The 'deluxe' model has a small 'beep' every 30 seconds to keep you on track. The 'basic' model has no beep, no cues to keep you moving along. It seems minor, and in the scheme of life, it is. It's just that I really find my self *wanting* that feature on the 'basic' model. It's just not there. This seems like a fairly arbitrary omission on Philips' part. This omission is the only reason I have given this brush 4 stars instead of 5.

There are some cosmetic differences between the 2 units. The 'basic' unit is heavier than the 'deluxe' model. Lastly, you can't share brush heads between these 2 units because they have different connectors at the base of the brush heads.

I prefer the more expensive model, but for double the price, I'm not sure its 'must-have' feature I find so valuable in the more expensive model should sway you to the more expensive version. You may not miss it at all. Especially if I hadn't told you about it. Sorry about that.
